On the hunt for comfy slippers

Home » Blog » Amy Stephens » On the hunt for comfy slippers

Where to buy warm, stylish slippers for winter ... that don't come from a chain or department store and are ethically produced? Amy Stephens of Fair Fashion Year has the answer!

It doesn’t take long for Warehouse slippers to fall apart. How long, you ask? Well, mine lasted a record one year. Plastic fantastic!

I wasn’t expecting to find anything in Wellington's Victoria St Trade Aid. But little did I know, they stock super soft and comfy women’s and men’s wool slippers for the reasonable price of $49 a pair. There are lots of sizes and colours too.

They're much nicer to wear than anything else I’ve bought. They also look like they will go the distance. Nice one, Trade Aid!

Click here for Trade Aid's store locations in New Zealand. Unfortunately their felt slippers are not currently available in their otherwise-fabulous online store.

Meet Amy from Fair Fashion Year

Zoe Carafice

Amy lives and works in the wonderful city of Wellington and has always been interested in fashion. But recently she's become concerned with the 'dark side' of fashion and the ethics and sustainability of it.

She's been blogging about her journey so far on her 'fair fashion year' - there are three rules. They are to only buy pre-loved, Fairtrade or New Zealand-made clothing and shoes.

So far it's been a pretty amazing and interesting eight months! You can read about her year so far at Fair Fashion Year!

Been desperate this winter for some groovy eco-slippers that don't cost the earth. yay! Off to see if they have them in Auckland.

They've definitely got them in the Ponsonby Trade Aid, Joanna - saw them last week!

In less than a century, the kiwi population has plummeted from the millions to the tens of thousands. Fortunately, there are many people and organisations committed to preserving this national icon. In April, two Coromandel brown kiwi (originally meant to be three, but one fell ill) were released on Motutapu Island after months of nurturing on the part of the Project Kiwi Trust. Luckily, Motutapu, which has been a predator-free zone since late 2011, offers them a real shot at surviving – even thriving.
