The Age of Stupid premiere was a carbon-neutral, solar-powered, star-studded, freezing cold affair. Here are some pictures from the green carpet, at last night's Greenpeace/ Oxfam-sponsored event...

Five years in the making, released in the UK in March, eco-horror Age of Stupid has finally made it down under. Its synchronised New Zealand/Australia premiere was held last night, with screenings at cinemas around the city.

Good attended the Greenpeace/Oxfam event, where the green carpet was rolled out and activists, ecopreneurs, Greenpeace Sign On ambassadors and more than a few famous faces rolled up (pix below).

The star of the night was Kiwi producer Lizzie Gillett, who started work on the docu-drama five years ago and hasn't stopped for breath. Her enthusiasm and passion were inspiring. (Watch an extended interview by TV3's Samantha Hayes here; and a 'making of Age of Stupid' interview by the Guardian here.)

And the movie? It's a shocker—in a good, slap-in-the-face, "holy crap I need to do something about this" kind of way. Set in a dystopian future that makes Bladerunner look quite good after all, its subject matter is depressing, worrying, and enormously frustrating. But the film is nuanced and fair, and by putting the challenges facing us in unflinchingly human terms, it's more interesting and engaging than either An Inconvenient Truth or The 11th Hour. It's well worth seeing.
