It's Earth Day on Thursday!

The 40th annual Earth Day is on Thursday, April 22nd. Business-owners: are you up for our Earth Day challenge?

Earthrise photo by NASA. This view of the rising Earth greeted the Apollo 8 astronauts as they came from behind the Moon after the lunar orbit insertion burn. Earth is about five degrees above the horizon in the photo.

In North America, Earth Day is a huge deal—and this year marks the 40th Earth Day celebration. There's 271 Earth Day events this year, an Earth Day climate rally, even Earth Day art.

On the official Earth Day website, individuals have pledged to do an incredible 21,256,183 green acts, from taking shorter showers to becoming a vegetarian. Businesses get in on the act, too: loads of companies offer Earth Day discounts on eco-friendly goods and services.

We'd love to see the same thing happen in New Zealand! (Hey, if we can borrow Halloween, why not Earth Day?)

So far, we know of one local business that's leading the way: Hometech is offering a $150 Earth Day 'greenbate' on its Solatube Daylighting Systems if you book in for a no-commitment quote on or before Earth Day, then decide to go ahead with an installation in April. Like a high-tech version of a skylight, Solatubes reflect daylight from your roof to the ceiling, providing electricity-free daytime lighting to dark rooms, without leaking heat like skylights can. I've just rung up for a quote!

Good challenges other local businesses to follow their lead!

Post your Earth Day offer in the comments below, and Good will shout it from the rooftops for you!
