It's oh so quiet

Home » Blog » Annabel McAleer » It's oh so quiet

The blog might have gone quiet but the office hasn't.

We're flat out putting issue two together. To keep you entertained in the meantime, here's some great stuff we've read lately:

WWF's Weathercocks and Signposts [PDF, exec summary]: a discussion about what motivates change in consumer behaviour, and the role of environmental NGOs now that mainstream media is picking up green marketing messages. Is going green a moral issue?

Climate more urgent than economy, say (UK) voters.

When asked whether tackling the environment or the economy—given global economic problems—should be the government's priority, 52% said the environment and 44% said the economy. That contradicts the widespread assumption that environmental issues are seen by voters as a luxury to be put aside in tough economic times.

The new, improved Celsias.com. Cleaner, a little bit greener, and projects, actions and discussions now much easier to navigate.

Regular programming in this neck of the wwwoods will resume shortly.

A couple of weird pictures I encountered today. That's Sarah Palin, potential first female VP of the US. Wearing a fur stole, speaking to a group of ... vikings.

  • Water works
    article illustration

We know that eventually even New Zealand, which is deluged in more rain that we can handle, must face up to the world-wide water crisis. It’s taken a business group to seize the nettle and produce a very good thought-starter on water, business and the rest of us.

    article illustration

New Zealanders spent around $16 billion at the supermarket last year. Most of that went to two giant corporations—Foodstuffs and Progressive Enterprises. Are you getting the food that you want? Well, have you asked for it?

Building houses, building hope
Article illustration

New Zealand has some of the least-affordable housing in the developed world. High rents, overcrowding and cold, damp, uninsulated homes are an everyday reality for many low-income families. Good magazine has teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to help families help themselves into new housing.

Inside the magazine is an 8-page supplement to promote Habitat for Humanity in New Zealand. And for the next two months, Good will donate $9 from each one-year subscription to Habitat for Humanity, and $16 from each two-year subscription.
