Temporary public parks sprang up around the world on Friday, little pockets of fun and friendliness popping up where cars usually sit idle.
The idea started in San Francisco a few years back, devised as a "creative exploration of how urban public space
is allocated and used". Around three-quarters of urban outdoor space is for vehicles, with only a tiny amount set aside for pedestrians and parks. Paying the parking meter of a carpark lets anyone rent this precious street-estate for a few hours. What can you do with it?
