We've been looking forward to this weekend for aaaages—and finally, it's nearly here!
Splore starts this Friday at the Tapapakanga Regional Park, just 70km south east of Auckland. The Good team will be there, with a super-chilled out tent space for you to have a nice cup of tea and a sit down.
The rest of the fest is as mental or as meandering as you want it to be: dance all night, get lost in the art trail, swim and sun yourself silly, take in the performances and workshops that inspire you, or just wander about enjoying the atmosphere.
I'll be doing a bit of all of the above: I'm very much looking forward to Pitch Black's midnight set on Saturday, the Midsummer Night's Dream 2050 party (oops, still got a costume to plan...), hanging out in the Living Lounge, Dick Weir's storytelling and, if I think I'm brave enough, a circus workshop or two. That barely scratches the surface of the events on offer, and no doubt the very best highlights will be the things I stumble upon unexpectedly.
If you've got a ticket, yay! Come and see us in the Good tent. If not, it's not too late to buy one. You can come for the whole weekend ($185), or just get a Saturday day-pass. Splore will donate $1 from every ticket sold to Oxfam to help with Haiti earthquake relief.
Here's what to pack:
Tickets (nearly all gone), photo ID, transport (car, boat, bicycle), accommodation (tent, campervan, caravan or book a bach locally), cash and/or Eftpos to upload onto your AWOP card, sensible footwear (jandals/trainers/boots), sunhat and sunscreen, torch (spare batteries), costume and dress ups for the Midsummer Nights Dream 2050 party, insect repellent, warm clothing and raincoat (just in case!), togs/bikinis/speedos and towel, floating device (lilo, rubber tube, dinghy), a keep Splore green attitude, food and water (bring in plastic containers), Gas cookers only (no charcoal BBQ/open fires).
Car-pooling is the way to go as those with 3+ people will be directed to a faster processing lane. Expect a search for alcohol and glass (and confiscation if found).
Come see us for a cuppa up near the camping zone. If you subscribe to Good while you're at Splore, you'll get a free Linden Leaves Foot Reviver. Plus you'll be in to win an eco-prize pack worth over $3,500. Click here for the list of goodies inside!
