Want proof that a sustainable New Zealand sells? Check out the winelist at a small country restaurant in the UK.

Imagine my surprise when, going for a family dinner at a small neighbourhood Thai restaurant in a small English country town, Yealands Estate turns up on the winelist.

A Kiwi wine featuring on a British winelist is no surprise—but the way it's being promoted is something very new. 

Rather than dwell on the flavours (and with a wine list that long, they do all start to sound the same after a while), the menu shouts: "New Zealand's first environmentally sustainable winery with its very own windfarm!"

And if the proprietors of a small country restaurant can spot sustainability as a marketing opportunity, you can bet it's starting to happen all over the world.

Another cool initiative: Yealands is using miniature sheep to mow the grass, instead of tractors! (Regular sheep developed a taste for the grapes; they tried guinea pigs next, but that didn't work out on a commercial scale.) Babydoll sheep only reach 45–60 centimetres tall when fully grown, so they don't eat the grapes … and their wool and meat will eventually be sold, too.
