Tomorrow you can make a difference

What are you doing for the International Day of Climate Action tomorrow? Whatever you do, don't stay home!

ABOVE: The students, parents and teachers from schools of the Upper Clutha District ran a collective 350km around the running track

Tomorrow is one of the biggest days of environmental action in history—and you can be part of it! If you care about climate change, get out to one of the events being held all over the country tomorrow and make it clear that the people of the world agree: we want a global agreement to keep levels of carbon dioxide below 350 parts per million.

October 24 is the International Day of Climate Action, organised by 350.org, and it will cover almost every country on Earth. Two screens in New York's Times Square will show footage and photos from over 4,200 events in 170 countries.

In Somalia, food will be cooked in 350 solar cookers. At Cambodia's Angkor Wat, young people will share climate change information with visitors. A global human '350' will be formed by groups around the world: the '3' in the Victoria Square ampitheatre in Christchurch, the '5' in New Delhi and the '0' in Copenhagen.

But tomorrow, all eyes are on New Zealand. We're the first country in the world to kick things off, so we'd better show them how it's done!

There's over 130 events planned: festivals, markets, bike rides, choirs, picnics, dances, movie nights, tree-planting, surfing,  and heaps of wacky and wonderful events. The action kicked off this morning on Takapuna Beach, where 350 t-shirts were hung out to dry on a massive clothesline, each printed with the name of one of our neighbouring Pacific Islands—who are being hung out to dry by insufficient climate change action from developed countries like New Zealand. Nothing like a powerful statement to get some attention!

Later today, thousands of school children from more than 50 schools across New Zealand are taking 350 actions. Check out 350.org.nz for updates from all 50 schools as they come in.

"New Zealand's over 130 registered actions represent one of the highest per capita commitments to the safe 350ppm level
and solving the
climate crisis.
We take our hats off to the mouse that roared!"
—Jon Warnow, global coordinator for 350.org

But tomorrow's the big day for the rest of us. Make sure you add your voice to the cry for action, and your face to the global protest. Thanks to 350.org.nz, here's the full list of official events around the country:
