Good housekeeping tips #6

We have received hundreds of housekeeping tips from Good readers. Now it's time to share them with you!

Old wool

"I have started buying cheap old woollen jumpers from charity shops and popping them in the wash when I do a hot wash to felt them. They make beautiful felt material which I then cut up and make into all sorts of treasuresfunky hanging bags to store the kids toys in, new felted jumpers and cardigans for my baby, little purses for birthday gifts for friends etc. A great fun way to make original treasures out of someone else's trash!"Saskia Etherington

De-clutter

"We have put away nearly all the trinkets and home accessories that cluttered our coffee tables, cabinets and other surface tops. The more we have, the more difficult it becomes to keep a room clean. So we pick two or three pieces that either best accent the room or whatever items makes us feel good. (We did not discard everything, especially since some items are precious because they pertain to family memories. So every now and then for a new look in the house, we swap items between a room and the storage cupboard).

"We've made the rule that whenever we purchase something new, it takes the place of something else. This helps to keep clutter under control and it also helps to prioritize purchases. Less clutter makes our room feel bigger, and it is also a must for some persons in our extended family with dust allergies."Jacquie McNab

Wonder scrub

"Use baking powder as a cleaner, sprinkle on bench tops, cooker, etc. Then scrub with  a damp cloth."Bren George
