One week into her 15-day detox, Good subs manager Jen Livingstone makes it look easy.

So here I am, one week into the detox and I think it is going pretty well. I have stuck to the diet … well, if you don’t include one sip of beer and a handful of evil movie popcorn (but who can resist the movie popcorn?). I have even developed a love of soy milk after I sceptically screwed my nose up at it just a short week ago.

It is all well and good to be spouting how well I am going on a Monday morning, but truth be known the weekend was torture! In an attempt to avoid temptation I went to two movies and a play. The darkened rooms prevented my idle self from giving into temptation, but it is not all avoidable. Friday afternoon and there was a birthday cake and drinks at work; even worse, dinner on Sunday night with my family and I had to say no to a delicious-smelling organic roast chicken with all the trimmings and a glass of sauvignon blanc. Sitting quietly with my plate of roasted veges and brown rice (which I usually would have been more than happy with) I can tell you now I was not a happy detoxer.

I am feeling pretty great. Initially I was feeling a little bit weak, which I put down to the decrease in protein in my diet, but I am feeling a lot more sprightly now. My stomach has been playing up a bit—interestingly enough, the ‘bowel clear’ pills seemed to have the opposite effect around day four, but that seems to have come right now (thank goodness!).

I think the best thing about the Quick Cleanse Detox programme is the versatility. It is so achievable to adapt to the vegan diet, I'm not hungry, dried fruit can curb the sweet cravings and green tea takes care of the caffeine. I don’t feel at all deprived (unless of course I can smell cake or roast chicken). A friend of mine recently attempted a detox that comprised of taking 40 pills a day and eating only raw fruit and veggies. Needless to say, she couldn’t keep it up. She even had to get up during the night multiple times to visit the bathroom—absolute torture!

Halfway through the Quick Cleanse Detox Programme I can definitely keep this up for another week, as long as that mother of mine doesn’t make any more roast chicken …
