Wellington's Te Papa will be packed with eager crafters, artisans and creative folks when HANDMADE's 150 activities kick off this Queen's Birthday weekend.

Masterclasses cover topics such as jewellery design, quilting, knitting, fashion, floristry, furniture making, baking and cooking. Hone your skills in practical workshops or head along to a lecture or demonstration for advice from the experts.

HANDMADE organiser Melanie Walker says excitement is building and some classes are close to selling out.

We’ve got an extensive offering of crafts and activities but the really popular workshops have been cheesemaking, oriental bookbinding and the introduction to beer brewing.
HANDMADE is a one stop shop for people wanting to get into the new wave of handmade things. You can try anything, learn from expert teachers across the range of crafts and skills and have the satisfaction of finishing an item and having fun with friends or family – all in one event!

And in 'Welcome to the Good life', Good's own editor Sarah Heeringa dishes the dirt on the world of magazines:

Sarah Heeringa doesn’t just write about the good life, she also tries to live it. A keen gardener, preserver and crafter, Sarah lives with her family of six in an old Auckland farmhouse. Chickens and a colony of bees are part of the family’s menagerie in the garden and the homestead is where many of the magazine’s craft and other DIY projects are brought into life as well as the location of numerous magazine photo shoots.
For a magazine that champions authenticity, it’s fitting that this carbon-neutral, locally-owned magazine is as real behind the scenes as it is in print. Learn about the making of Good as well as some of the magazine’s how-to projects in this fascinating glimpse behind the pages.

Head to the HANDMADE website for session tickets – or snap up a weekend pass.
