In its December 1947 issue, My Home magazine contained a beautiful floral insert which readers could use to make "pretty and useful things with only an expenditure of pennies".

We've reproduced the design below for you to use:

For a modern take on the concept, Tamsin Cooper created a pohutukawa design that can be used to decorate empty cans, pickle jars, cake tins, needle cases and more:

We've used it to embellish a plain can, which we've then turned into a lavender planter – a simple Christmas gift:

The link for the Pohutukawa design by Tamsin Cooper does not work. I would also like the title page of the 1947 magazine to be downlowadable, not a photo, as it is such a lovely picture of a domestic goddess and so pretty!

Hi Babette, would you please try opening the pohutukawa design again? I've tested it and it's working fine on our end.

I've added a larger version of the My Home cover - just click on it to open!
