EVERY ONE is Save the Children’s new global campaign. It aims to show that by doing one small thing—such as donating the cost of a cup of coffee—we can all help to save lives.

Every year, nine million children around the world are at risk of dying from basic, preventable diseases before they reach the age of five. The Princess Royal, Princess Anne, is the patron of Save the Children and is very motivated to do something about these appalling figures.

The Princess spent some time in Auckland last week to launch the campaign in New Zealand. A child's life can come down to something as simple as the lack of a bucket or a blanket. Millions of lives could be saved through simple low cost solutions like monitoring mothers through pregnancy, providing cheap antibiotics to prevent pneumonia and insecticide-treated bed nets to prevent malaria, said the Princess.

Dr Allan Freeth, CEO of TelstraClear and chair of Save the Children New Zealand joined the Princess in exhorting everyone to come up with their own way of raising money to help save these young lives. Click here for more about the EVERY ONE campaign.

“We believe that every one can make a difference—simply by doing just one thing. A collective effort can generate amazing results and the sum is always greater than the parts,” said Freeth. “I love watching movies, so my plan is to donate the weekly cost of renting one of these movies to the EVERY ONE campaign.”

By doing one small thing—such as donating the cost of a cup of coffee—everyone really can help save a life.
