Oxfam Trailwalker: the long dark night of the sole
Home » Blog » Sarah Heeringa » Oxfam Trailwalker: the long dark night of the soleWahoo! Oxfam’s Trailwalker 2011 finished with the team’s spirits and bodies (mostly) intact. Ali, Mark, Christina and Helen all showed their true grit. Especially in the wee hours when toes were throbbing and lanced blisters were weeping ... !
We went through the long dark night of the sole (and the soul) but we made it!
Throughout the day and the night there were lots of laughs and lots of yummy food dished up from inside our palatial Maui camper van. Muffins, freshly made sushi, and hot carrot and coriander soup were just some of the delights on the menu. And after 26 hours of walking, talking, listing the A to Zs of almost every topic, the team arrived at downtown Taupo for their walk of glory across the park.
There to welcome the team were our enthusiastic pom pom waving, banner and sparkler holding, cheering support crew.
What a blast! And to date more than $5000 raised for a great cause. Click here for more and to make a donation.
Just some of the scrumptious treats for the team’s rest stops.
Helen enjoying one of Kirsten’s homemade triple-chocolate muffins.
The trusty Maui campervan that kept the support team rolling.
The dark night is over and the sun’s up! Now just to get those tired legs up the last hill and into the park for the glory walk.
Let the celebrations begin!
