Putting on a garden party this summer? Here are a few easy tips to get you started

Festive outdoor table from Good magazine

  • Mix washable table linens, vintage napkins and glasses with disposable wooden cutlery and Potatopak’s colourful, totally biodegradable potato-starch dinnerware—just watch that the kids don’t eat all the plates
  • Use large terracota pots as ice buckets and fill with organic fizz and locally brewed boutique beers.
  • Get your guests sorting: add a second pot for easy collection of empties
  • Add intimacy and a festive splash of colour to your al fresco dining space by stringing together a dreamy outdoor room using hemp twine, bamboo poles and Trade Aid’s sumptous silk scarfs

For more of these great tips, Christmas gift ideas and eco-stying inspiration check out the latest issue of Good (issue 10) on sale in bookstores and supermarkets now.

Great ideas, thanks guys! I would definitely like to see green biodegradable disposable plates become more mainstream at bbqs. I'm going to nip out and get your latest issue to see what other ideas you have :)

That's great to hear Andrea. We had a garden party recently and when the children discovered that the plates were edible they started tucking into them with gusto. A friend's son who never eats his greens ate an entire potato plate and came back for more!
