The Age of Stupid

"We could have saved ourselves, but we didn’t. It’s amazing. What state of mind were we in, to face extinction and simply shrug it off?”

The Age of Stupid is the new epic from McLibel director Franny Armstrong. Pete Postlethwaite stars as a man living alone in the devastated world of 2055, looking at old footage from 2008 and asking: why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance?

The UK premiere of The Age of Stupid was billed by organisers as the world's greenest. Auditors calculated that the carbon emissions from the 'green carpet' event were 1% of those at a typical Hollywood 'red carpet' premiere. The event in Leicester Square, London, attracted top names and MPs, including celebrities such as Will Young and Gillian Anderson, who arrived in a van powered by recycled chip fat.

Following the hugely successful UK People’s Premiere, The Age of Stupid is being launched simultaneously in Australia and New Zealand at the big green live film event.

On Wed 19th August, A-list celebrities will arrive at both the Sydney Theatre and at a specially-constructed zero-waste tent in Auckland harbour, hosted by Oxfam and Greenpeace. They will come by bicycle, solar car, rickshaw or electric car, before braving the cameras on the green carpet in a green extravaganza.

Meanwhile, more than 10,000 people will be watching the events unfold live at more than 50 local cinemas.

Following the movie, there will be a panel discussion featuring the Oscar-nominated star of the film, Pete Postlethwaite (In The Name of the Father) and director Franny Armstrong (McLibel).
