“We lose our health in order to get wealth, and then use all our wealth to try and get our health back.” I heard this comment recently and it struck me as so true for so many. I feel very fortunate to discover these things young in life and want to share the things I learn on my journey with you all!

With officially 12 weeks and 12 kilograms gone I can tell you all I currently weigh in at 70 kilograms! Another ten kilograms to go to achieve my goal … which I realise I’m going to need to bump up the exercise to reach.

It has not been too hard to stick to this healthy way of being. But I have discovered that health is much more than solely a diet. It is a whole way of being.

Good health is eating nourishing good food, drinking lots of fresh water, enjoying varied, regular exercise, sleeping peacefully, thinking lovingly and positively and most of all enjoying life in all its fullness—body, mind and soul! Only then are we able to enjoy the benefits that health will bring us.

KarenI have learnt this from many beautiful healthy people in my life but in particular I am lucky to have the support of my step-mother Karen; a newly trained naturopath and iridologist and someone who recently celebrated her 50th birthday. She’s a fine example of just what good health and a beautiful woman really looks like! (That's her on the left.) Health and true beauty mean growing gracefully through all life’s seasons—loving and accepting oneself, flaws and all. We girls are particularly hard on ourselves but learning to feel comfortable in my skin is something I’m working hard at. My current mantra: ‘Loving myself just as I am.’

I fully recommend seeing a naturopath as the first step towards good health. Their holistic approach to health means they treat the cause rather than the symptoms. Many people have asked me about the price of seeing a naturopath and commented on just how unaffordable it is, but of course I have the inside scoop for you all as to where to go for the care you require for a fraction of the price!

My step-mother Karen trained at South Pacific College of Natural Therapies which is based in Ellerslie. This is a great, easily accessible venue with plenty of parking, where you can see a trainee naturopath in their final year. While they get the experience with clients they need, there’s always a senior tutor to refer to should a second opinion be required. This is only $30 a consultation ($20 for those unwaged).

Expect an in-depth look into your past health and family history in warm, comfortable surroundings. You have the option of purchasing whichever herbal remedy they recommend: a 100ml bottle at the low price of $20. Me and my six-year-old daughter Oceana have been regulars. It’s a very child-friendly place! I strongly recommend whipping the whole whanau out for a full body check-up.

A comment that I heard recently that’s stuck is: “We lose our health in order to get wealth, and then use all our wealth to try and get our health back.” It’s so true for so many. I feel very fortunate to discover these things young in life and want to share the things I learn on my journey with you all!
Remember we only ever get one body and one planet. Let’s do what we can to take the best care of both. Happy living everyone!

Another great blog! I now come on the site reguarly to check out your pearls of wisdom Sarah! I agree that there is something beautiful in a woman who grows gracefully through all the seasons of life versus the Hollywood trend of plastic surgery and the likes. I come from a long line of beautiful woman who believe beauty is more than an image and thankfully nurtured us all with this philosophy. I wish MORE of our young girls out there were taught this... healthy living as an WHOLE overall concept!

ps I found GOOD in my local bookstore- Lovely mag!
ALSO PLEASE post more recipes- the Mousse was divine!

I did something different this week for the ABs game. Instead of loading up on ETA chips and that yummy homemade onion dip with a boote of sprite to quench the thirst from all the salt.....I swapped it for organic corn chips both cheese and red corn chips...(so the kids could have fun with the colours) and I bought a can of chick peas so we could make our own hummus! That's big for us! I had to think smart to get the kids to enjoy it too, and thankfully the coloured cornchips and making the hummus built up enough excitement for them to taste what "they" created.....they loved it! A little more expensive, but it didn't break the budget :)....it was finished before the games started. I have decided to push ahead with the healthier option. Thanks for the support!

Definately recommend the little bottles of wonder you can get from a nautropath!! I got a remedy the other day, nearing the end of a monster fortnight and feeling it! It picked me up completely. Herbs and flowers are cruical for wellbeing, specially during big loads of work and lack of sleep. Your weight sounds like its falling off!! Lucky thing- mine is sneakily increasing...daily. Yep definatley more exercise. Hey have you got any good winter recipes or tips for healthy snacks. Pies are just too good at this time.
