Pure Fiji giveaway: light a candle for Earth Hour

Home » Blog » Sophie Bond » Pure Fiji giveaway: light a candle for Earth Hour

On the evening of Saturday 27, all around the world the lights will go out for Earth Hour—what will you be doing to mark the occasion?

Above: Candles by chidorian via Flickr. Below: Pure Fiji candles

Turning your lights out for an hour might seem like a small gesture, but when everyone acts together it makes for a big impact. Turning off your lights and appliances for 60 minutes next Saturday might make you think about actions you could take everyday to make your life more sustainable.

There are events planned around the country: go here to search for events in your area or to add one of your own.

Pure Fiji candlesWe'd like to know what you've got planned for 8:30pm on March 27. Leave a comment with your wonderful, wild or wacky Earth Hour idea, and you could win one of five Pure Fiji Island candles.

These yummy scented candles, with tropical perfumes like frangipani and mango, are handmade in Fiji from locally harvested natural beeswax.

Leave a comment by 5pm on Wednesday 24th, and the winners will receive  their exotic candles in time for their Earth Hour celebrations on Saturday 27th—and perhaps your comments will inspire even more people to get involved.

Pure Romance
A night in with the man. Outdoor lanterns hanging in the breeze. Nibbles and wine, conversation and enjoying the last of summer. And planning our new house. I keep all the Good mags and now can reread through the HOME section of Good for ideas to creating a sustainable and eco house. Cheers

I'm having dinner with my family, some of whom aren't great at watching their power usage and making changes to their behaviour to live more sustainably.  I'll ask everyone to bring something made from their garden or from local ingredients, will switch off all the appliances, and will use the occasion to get everyone to talk about what they're doing to reduce their carbon footprint, share ideas about what else we could do, and make pledges to reduce their carbon footprint in specific ways, such as walking to work at least once a week, switching off appliances at the wall, eating less meat, etc.

I'll hopefully be chopping up and packaging some wild venison! a it's free red meat full of goodness and fat free from the wild and it's removing one more pest from our native bush, contributing to saving our biodiversity. (BTW This eating less meat to save on carbon is nonsense dreamed up by the vegetarian front but it's been a powerful message hasn't it? The real carbon reducing way is drive less, mow less, use less petrol)

I have a home massage planned in total darkness & quietness..... will be zoning out and meditating enjoying the sheer solitude of pure indulgence of some "just me" time......massage followed by a bubble bath and an early night.
