Any business worth its weight in salt now knows it needs a sustainability plan

Any business worth its salt now knows it needs a sustainability plan. But getting your head around what that means to you and your business can be a confusing journey. What’s the next step? Who do you contact? How do you know who’s credible and who’s not?

The answers to all these questions—and a refreshing tipple or two—can be found at Green Drinks, a regular networking event.

Held once a month at eight locations around the country, Green Drinks has become a hugely popular way for everyone from teachers to CEOs to architects to share information and socialise with like-minded people.

The idea was started in Chicago and now incorporates 349 cities around the world. Here, the events vary in size depending on their location but it’s not uncommon to have 400 people mingling under one roof.

Trish Kirkland Smith, co-organiser of Auckland’s Green Drinks, says the event is a great way for people to get advice.

“When it comes to sustainability, no-one’s done this before so we’re all just finding out. Green Drinks is a chance for people to come together and say ‘I tried this and it seemed to work’. People get re-energised by coming along.”

And like any social business event, there are other spin-offs. Ideas are born, new businesses created and, overseas at least, there have already been two Green Drinks weddings. Get yourself to the next one.
