Christchurch:

Okeover Community Garden
Beside
Okeover Stream, there is a path between Ilam Road and Engineering Road

are lots of workshops and social events on at other times.

There is also a Council list of community gardens, but it was made in 2005, so may be out of date:

Hi from Wanganui

Youth Services Trust is putting together a proposal for a youth community garden in Castlecliff, Wanganui.  If any one would be interested in sharing some information on what works and what doesn't, it would be greatly recieved.  Hoping to get the project up and running in approx 5 weeks, focusing on 10 young people this first year and hoping to expand in future.

Hi Glenys -- we're a bit behind in adding the community gardens to the list above, but the map is up-to-date! Unfortunately you can't add photos to the Good website, but you can put a link to a photo on another site in a comment, along with what you'd like us to do with it, and we can consider it.

Kia Ora,
I would like to register the "Aramoho Community Garden and Food Forest" based at Wai Ora, 49 Brunswick Road, Aramoho, Whanganui. These gardens were originally located at Te Mana Park in Aramoho but the lack of security and public toilets meant their relocation to Wai Ora. Since the relocation a team has designed, developed and planted a food forest to compliment the gardens. Over 110 fruit and nut trees have been planted along with over 600 native trees and shrubs. All are welcome. Contact Wai Ora (06) 343-5015

Brooklyn Community Gardens is having an official opening Sunday 22nd August from 1 to 3. A charming linear garden next to the Community Centre at Harrison Street, Brooklyn, Wellington. My vine cutting has done well.
WCC now has an encouraging Community Gardens policy and several have sprungup - some on Council, some onprivate land and several at Council housing complexes.
Contact me if you're a Wellingtonian who wants to set up a new one.

Hi,

Here are a couple of community gardens in Palmerston North City:

  • Pit Park - a public space near Freyberg High School that has been adopted by local who run working parties to revive the landscape.  The project is run in partnership with Palmerston North City Council and much of the focus so far has been planting native trees on the banks of the pit and also in the wetland areas within it.  There are plans for a passive recreational park aswell.  See http://www.environmentnetwork.org.nz/106.html
  • St Peters Community Garden - Started in early 2010.  It's behind St Peters Church on Broadway Avenue.  The contact person is Morag Lorigan gismet2@slingshot.co.nz
  • Plant to Plate is free to local primary schools and involves establishing school gardens, teaching gardening and cooking skills.  This initiative recently won the Supreme Award for the Palmerston North Trust Power Community Awards.  See http://www.pncsc.co.nz/cms/page.php?view=plant-to-plate-home
