Following the success of the 2018 event, this year’s Auckland Art Fair is set to show some of the best galleries from the Pacific. More than 150 artists from New Zealand and around the world will be showing their creations at Auckland’s The Cloud from 1 May to 5 May.

Here are some of the exhibitions and artists we’re looking forward to seeing:

Whanaungatanga

Francis McWhannell is the curator of the 2019 Projects Programme. Titled Whanaungatanga, McWhannell invited 10 alumni from the Projects of 2018 to nominate the new group of artists. This reflects a network of friendship. Two of the projects will be presented at Takutai Square in Britomart: a projected video work by Rainer Weston will show every evening during the event, and a performative work by Rachel Ashby, Sarah Callesen and others will take place at 2.30pm on Saturday 4 May.

Samoa House Library Reading Room

This space will offer books and articles about the art and the artists who are exhibiting at the event. This will be a great place to go and learn more about the works you’ll see over a cup of coffee and a snack from Daily Bread. Samoa House Library is an evolving educational platform that emerged in response to the forthcoming closure of the University of Auckland’s Fine Arts, Music and Architecture and Planning libraries.
