GEOJ OFFICIAL, the fashion label created by 18-year old Hagley College School of Fashion graduate Georgia Hensley-Smith had its moment on the runway at this New York and Milan Fashion Weeks in September (2018).
Hensley-Smith showed two six-outfit collections at New York and Milan Fashion Weeks on Sept 8 and 22 respectively.
The invitation to present came from Oxford Fashion Studio where, in Milan, Hensley-Smith was given the privilege of closing the group show of emerging fashion designers from around the globe. The theknockturnal.com/new-designers-oxford-fashion-studio/ described the metallic yellow that made up the most of her pieces as extremely versatile and “outfits [that] could get you anywhere: from a board meeting to a dinner party to a movie premiere to a dramatic poetry reading.”
Oxford Fashion Studio, which hosted the artists (including Hensley-Smith) and provided models, prides itself on giving a platform to new and upcoming designers and disrupting the fashion industry with fresh voices.
Hensley-Smith’s Milan Fashion Week collection featured a beautiful combination of neutral tones, high-quality fabrics and a hint of iridescent magic. “Our main fabric is a mixture of silk and wool, that drapes and falls beautifully. It is sure to make the wearer feel like royalty,” says Hensley-Smith.
She described the New York Fashion Week collection as her boldest yet with “pieces designed to be mixed and matched. Worn together or separately… and put anyone on the best-dressed list.”
In her short but bright career to date Hensley-Smith has also showed at NZ Fashion Week, but it was her debut mini collection entered into the Hokonui Fashion Awards that first garnered attention for her usage of bold print and colour.
