Complicated skincare can aggravate skin and even confuse the best of us. A simple 1, 2, 3 regime reminds us that we need to get the basics right first before we get caught up in trend-focused or gimmicky beauty buys.
Caring for your skin is a very simple process that is crucial to a healthy lifestyle. In fact most people find that they can perform any routine for healthy skin in less than five minutes a day. In order to maintain your largest organ, your skin, you need to become familiar with the basic approaches to caring for your skin.
There are three primary steps involved in maintaining a good skin care routine; cleanse, tone and moisturise. While each individual will want to follow all basic skin care steps you will need to tailor each step to meet your specific skin type and condition. For example, an individual with oily skin will want to use a different cleanser and moisturiser than an individual with dry skin.
Step 1- Cleanse
The intent with the first step is to find a cleanser that is designed to meet the needs of your skin type and that your skin responds well to. In general, consider using a creamy cleanser if your skin is dry and a foaming cleanser if your skin is oily. We recommend: Sukin's Cleanse/Exfoliant range.
Most individuals do not need to cleanse their face more the twice per day, once in the morning and once at night. When wetting your face always use lukewarm water as hot or cold water can cause surface capillaries to break. Repeat the same process during your nightly cleansing. For individuals that wear heavy makeup, an appropriate make up remover or second cleanse may be necessary.
Step 2- Tone
For many, the word “toner” brings to mind stinging astringents from the ’80s. Today’s formulas, however, have evolved. Toners help to remove fine traces of oil, dirt, and makeup you may have missed when cleansing. However these days they can also deliver and extra shot of nutrients to the skin and help the other products in your regimen absorb better, while still balancing your complexion. It can also be a good way to add in specific ingredients that you may not have in your other products or add another layer of skin-replenishment.
We recommend:Sukin's Toners and Masques.
Step 3 - Moisturise
A quality moisturiser assists in sealing in moisture within the skin and acts as a defensive shield against wind and other factors that cause the skin to dry. Even individuals with oily skin should use a daily moisturiser, albeit a lighter moisturiser, designed for an oily skin type.
We recommend: Sukin's Moisturise range.
Once you have the basics working properly then you can start to look at additional products to enhance your regime or treat specific concerns. Discover your regime by taking Sukin's personalised skincare regime quiz.
