Blunt Umbrellas and Oxfam NZ are announcing the release of a further run of the limited edition ‘weather bomb’ umbrellas in support of the Oxfam Trailwalker event on March 25-26.
Blunt Umbrellas and Oxfam NZ are announcing the release of a further run of the limited edition ‘weather bomb’ umbrellas in support of the Oxfam Trailwalker event on March 25-26.
Dick Frizzell and Oxfam NZ and Blunt Umbrellas have come together to produce a further 500 of the ‘weather bomb’ umbrellas, to keep raising interest interest and funds to make a difference to Oxfam’s climate change initiatives. Blunt Umbrellas has already raised $60,00 for Oxfam, and is hoping to generate an additional $20,000 to reach their goal of $80,000.
“New Zealanders have a wonderful relationship with weather, but there are families close to our country devastated by the effects of climate change, such as flooding, high tides and storms. We are happy to create a product to raise awareness around this problem and funds to help Oxfam who are doing respectful work for these communities,” says Scott Kington, Blunt Umbrellas co-founder, who is also taking part in the Trailwalker with three others in the Blunt Umbrellas team.
The Trailwalker is Oxfam’s biggest fundraising project, where participants take on the challenge of walking either 50km over 18 hours or 100km over 36 hours around Whakatane and the Bay of Plenty.
Teams are encouraged to raise a minimum of $2500 per team of 4. This year, with every umbrella sold, $40 of that goes towards the teams’ overall tally. Purchasers of the umbrellas also have the option of choosing which team the donation goes to.
Last year’s fundraiser reached an incredible $980,000 in 2017. This year’s target is a formidable $1 million.
The extra limited edition umbrellas will be available online at bluntumbrellas.com from March 15, 2017 in XS Metro for $99. The weather bomb design is created by much-loved artist Dick Frizzell, and features slogans, popular sayings, famous weather reports and song lyrics such as “Always take the weather with you”, “The sun will come out tomorrow”, “I’m singing in the rain” and “There’s a weather bomb out in the Tasman.”
Charlene Fitisemanu, Corporate Relationships Executive of Oxfam says “This Blunt umbrella won’t just protect you from the rain for years to come. It could also protect and support families in the Pacific Islands who are facing the threat of ever greater, super-charged storms, which can wreck homes and livelihoods.”
