Ecostore’s home, body and baby range is now complete with the launch of its new oral care products, which use safer, naturally-derived ingredients. What’s more, their toothbrushes are made from plant plastic and are recyclable through the company’s recycling scheme, ensuring they are safer for you and the environment.

In a rapidly growing market of conscious consumers, recent New Zealand supermarket data highlights natural toothpaste as the fastest growing segment in the total oral care category. Ecostore’s new range is only full range of naturally-derived oral care products available in New Zealand supermarkets. Its new toothpaste and mouthwash ingredient list includes magnolia bark extract and kanuka oil, independently tested and proven to help reduce plaque, prevent tartar build-up, and protect against germs that cause bad breath. Natural essential oils including peppermint, spearmint, menthol and clove-leaf are also used as an alternative to synthetic flavours to provide long-lasting freshness.

Ecostore’s Senior Brand Manager – Oral Care, Lucy Acland, says, “for a while we’ve had consumers ask us for safer oral care products. We’ve listened and have created a range using naturally derived ingredients that are free from SLS, triclosan, fluoride and parabens. We’re excited to now be able to share these products we’ve been working hard to develop with our consumers.”

It’s not the first time ecostore has been leading the market when it comes to sustainability and innovation. After humble beginnings in 1993, Malcolm and Melanie Rands started ecostore with a mission to help families care for their homes, their health and the world. It now sells its products in more than 10 countries globally, and in 2014, it became the first manufacturer in the world to convert all its proprietary bottles to a plastic made from sugarcane. Today, it continues to innovate with its plant plastic toothbrushes.

Plant plastic is bio-based, renewable and carbon neutral, with no nasty chemicals found in the production of petrochemical plastic such as BPA, PVC, phthalates. The toothbrush handles are made from renewable castor plants, avoiding the use of petrochemicals, and can be recycled through ecostore’s oral care recycling scheme, where ecostore will collect the brushes and toothpaste tubes from consumers via freepost and collection bins at key retailers. The plastic from the toothbrush will be re-used in other products, allowing ecostore to reduce its virgin plastic consumption and close the loop on the lifecycle of their toothbrushes.

The new oral care range from ecostore is available in supermarkets nationwide now. The toothpaste comes in three variants (100g): Complete Care, Whitening and Propolis, all with a fresh mint flavour, for $5 each. The plant plastic toothbrushes are available in four colours in both Soft and Medium bristles, with multi-height bristles for cleaning performance, also $5 each. Their Complete Care Mouthwash has a fresh mint flavour and is available for $8.
