Dry July is the fundraiser that challenges you to go booze-free for a month to support people affected by cancer. When you’re diagnosed with cancer, it’s hard to find the time or energy to think about anything other than treating the cancer. Dry July raises money to ease that burden, reduce the stress and add a bit of comfort throughout the cancer journey.

Heading the dryjuly.co.nz website is a great place to start for getting all the information you need about the month – as well as a list of fun activities and inspiration for making July a month to remember. How about hosting a mocktail night with your girlfriends? Going without alcohol doesn’t sound too bad at all! And it’s better for your health too, here’s how:

Increased energy levels, higher productivity

Clearer head

No more hangovers

Sleeping better / snoring less

Weight loss

Clearer skin

Healthier bank balance / Save money

Sense of achievement

Fresh approach to alcohol consumption

Generally feel healthier

Doing something positive for a good cause

But Dry July is much more than giving up alcohol for a month. It’s the chance to help people affected by cancer by raising funds to make their lives more comfortable. All the monies raised from fundraising efforts directly benefit cancer patients, their families and carers. Funds go towards resources to help reduce patient anxiety and the side effects of cancer treatment by funding free services such as complementary therapies, wellness programs, and wig libraries, and by providing comfortable and inviting spaces for patients to inhabit while undergoing treatment.
