New Zealand clothing brand Kowtow is protesting against single-use plastic with a range of T-shirts and knitwear pieces.

Right in time for World Environment Day (5 June 2019), Kowtow has designed a range of T-shirts and knitwear, with each piece displaying either a slogan or image relating to plastics that are commonly found along beaches.
Kowtow’s founder and creative director, Gosia Piatek, says, “Single-use plastic is the worst offender to our marine environment. We have become complacent, and now something that was once deemed convenient is the bane of our existence. We can’t continue to live in a natural environment and act unnaturally towards it. The earth is our only home and we need to care for it.”
Each T-shirt is made from fair-trade organic cotton and is printed with environmentally friendly inks that allow for sustainable use and treatment of water. The knitwear pieces are individually knitted from stock yarn, which helps eliminate fabric waste.
Single-use plastic is one of the largest contributors to climate change, with 32 per cent of all plastic waste produced annually left to flow into the ocean.
This range from Kowtow is for sale from 5 June 2019, and proceeds from all purchases of the new range will be donated to oceans charity Sustainable Coastline so they’re able to fund their education programme in schools.
