Another zero waste supermarket opens

New Zealand’s founding zero-waste supermarket, GoodFor wholefoods refillery has just opened a new store in Auckland, with plans to expand nationwide.

GoodFor, New Zealand’s founding zerowaste supermarket may only be a year old, but it’s changing the grocery game.

Beginning out of its Williamson Avenue store in Ponsonby early 2017, the business has proved to be successful in developing a following of customers who are actively changing their shopping habits to that of plastic packaging reduction.

GoodFor offers shoppers a selection of more than 400 dry goods, oils & vinegars on tap, kombucha on tap as well as ecostore cleaning and personal hygiene products. They also provide everything you need to create a waste free life style, from glass jars and bottles, organic cotton shopping bags through to bamboo tooth brushes and stainless steel thermal drinking bottles.

The company is also teamed up with charity “Trees For The Future” and for every purchase made at GoodFor, GoodFor donates the means to plant a tree. With 35,000 trees planted in the first 11 months of trading, they are set to make serious impact over the next decade.

GoodFor encourages customers to bring their own packaging into the store such as jars, bottles and bags. This is weighed first with the weight deducted after customers have filled everything up.

This unique shopping experience aims to change the way consumers go about their grocery shopping for the better, as well as the alarming statistics around food packaging in New Zealand.

Approximately 352,000 tonnes of packaging goes into landfills each year, with New Zealanders consuming about 735,000 tonnes of packaging every year and recycling only about 58 per cent of that.

The aim of GoodFor founders and bothers James and Paul Denton has always been to take GoodFor to the entire nation and the world, in turn helping the dream of a packageless pantry a reality in households.

The new Parnell site is a variation on the Ponsonby site, and adjacent to the La Cigale French markets, appealing to the weekend food shoppers.
