Organic Week Aotearoa: healthy soil, food and people

Back for its second year, Organic Week Aotearoa aims to get Kiwis supporting all things organic.

Words Lara Wyatt

From Monday 29 April, Organic Week Aotearoa will be running a week-long programme filled with plenty of activities across New Zealand that encourage Kiwis to learn about and support organic food and produce.

To start the programme, an organic market will be held in Auckland’s Britomart on 29 April. There will be stalls selling plenty of organic products from companies like Kokako Coffee and Ceres Organics as well as the community garden initiative OMG (Organic Market Garden).

But it’s not just Auckland getting in on the action. There are markets and events expected to pop up all around the country, including an organic degustation feast hosted by Bostock Brothers and Villa Maria Winery in Hawke’s Bay.

There are plenty of workshops and talks popping up around the country as well. Everything from a workshop on how to build planter boxes run by Featherston Community Garden group and Cameron Family Farms in Featherston, right through to a composting workshop in Otago.

No matter where you’re at with your understanding and involvement with an organic lifestyle, there’s bound to be an event for you.
