Experience climate change, penguin colonies and the beauty of the Antarctic like never before at the Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum.
The Antarctica Experience is a product of Australian filmmaker Briege Whitehead who partnered with director Phil Harper and the Western Australian Museum.
The 22-minute virtual reality experience allows you to see Antarctica through scientists and expeditioners eyes.
The 360-degree virtual experience allows you to view the continent from a helicopter and land on glaciers.
Other sights include a penguin colony and their new chicks, Davis Station and the science behind surviving the harsh weather conditions, as well as seeing the natural brilliance of the Southern Lights.
The goal of this exhibition is to open people’s eyes, both literally and figuratively, to see the environmental challenges of our time.
Briege says that people enjoy getting to share the experience with family and friends. “People love the opportunity to make a virtual visit to Antarctica and see the impact of climate change for themselves. The fact that they can fully share the experience with their friends and families in an auditorium is an added bonus.”
Viewers will get an understanding of the hard work that goes into understanding climate change, managing sustainability of species on the continent and conducting research.
