We love this fresh take on a Christmas advent calendar – and conscious-living consumers who love all things beauty will too.
Matakohe-based mum Charly Draper hopes to make more Kiwi women aware of the local alternatives to mainstream beauty brands with her beauty advent calendars full of cruelty-free and natural New Zealand-made products.
Think lipsticks made with active manuka honey, exfoliating scrubs based on ground walnut-shells, and facial oil made of organic avocado – this advent calendar gives consumers the chance to try either 12 or 25 products before deciding whether they’ll them to their long term beauty routine in the future.
“I have always loved beauty products, but at the same time I wanted to live an environmentally-friendly, ethical lifestyle. Many beauty products are tested on animals, come in excessive packaging, or contain potentially harmful chemicals” she says.
With that in mind, this time last year, Draper started contacting New Zealand beauty brands all over the country to ask if they would like to be a part of her Beautiful Christmas advent calendar. The reply from the industry was overwhelming – and saw Draper send out 100 Beautiful Christmas NZ advent calendars that festive season.
“There are so many wonderful beauty brands in NZ, featuring amazing NZ ingredients. Purchasing locally is both better for the environment and better for our economy. When you buy from a New Zealand company, you are supporting another New Zealander. It’s clichéd, but it’s true: each purchase is a vote with your wallet.”
