Bespoke designs for the polo

Heading to the polo in Auckland this weekend? This year’s theme under the Veuve Clicquot marquee is Rio Carnaval – and we love these bespoke designs from iconic Kiwi designers ahead of the event.

Three iconic New Zealand designers, Kathryn Wilson, Deadly Ponies and Huffer have each created a bespoke piece of polo fashion this year to go with the unique Veuve Clicquot marquee theme taking place at the Land Rover NZ Polo Open this Sunday, Rio Carnaval. The theme is timely, with the Rio Olympics later this year, and three New Zealand’s athletes working hard towards representing the country at the Olympics later this year will each receive one of the bespoke pieces.

Hockey star Anita Punt will receive a pair of Kathryn Wilson heels, Olympic gold medallist Lisa Carrington a deadly ponies bag, and triathlete Tony Dodds a shirt from Huffer. They’ll debut these bespoke pieces on the ‘yellow’ carpet on Sunday.

Kathryn Wilson, a brand ambassador for Veuve Clicquot, is once again excited to create a vibrant and energetic pair of heels to adhere with this year’s theme – which pays tribute to the country’s finest athletes.

“This year’s theme is a lot of fun and it’s apt ahead of the pending Olympics. Designing a pair of heels for one of the country’s sporting heroes is an absolute privilege,” says Wilson.

Liam Bowden, founder and designer of Deadly Ponies, also welcomed the opportunity to work with Veuve Clicquot for the first time and design a bespoke bag for Lisa Carrington. “Lisa is someone who personifies style, drive and success, making her a great fit for our brand. We had a lot of fun designing something for her that would be appropriate to her active lifestyle but still incorporated Rio-inspired chic.”

The third bespoke piece is a shirt from Huffer, with director Steve Dunstan adding “it is an honour to be a part of this unique Veuve Clicquot collaboration and to have the chance to showcase our designs at such a prestigious sporting event.”

If you are heading to the polo, the Veuve Clicquot marquee is the place to head to. Expect colour, music and unique entertainment, as well as delicious Rio-inspired dished alongside flutes of Veuve Clicquot, including baby brazil but cakes drizzled with chocolate whisky sauce and mouth-watering raisin and pine nut frittelles (also known as carnival donuts).
