Brighten rainy days with Brolly by Bass

Celebrated New Zealand artist Emma Bass, renowned for her sumptuous floral artworks, has brought her joyful compositions to life on an umbrella.

“Extending my creations to an umbrella enables me to share the beauty and optimism of my work in a new and much more accessible way,” says Bass who recently exhibited in the UK and decided that London would be the perfect place to trial her prototype brolly.

“It rained every day that I was there, but every time I put up my umbrella it brought a smile to myself and others. In a sea of black city brollies, why not stand out?”.

But an umbrella needn’t be limited to rainy days, muses Bass, who also uses hers as a parasol for UV protection from the harsh New Zealand sun.

The beautiful brolly design features a Delft vase, hydrangeas, waterlilies, electric zinnias, a budgie, and a lifecycle of monarch butterflies.

With an artful natural bamboo handle and tip, the 23″ waterproof umbrella has been constructed with quality materials and is unbreakable in wind speeds of up to 120 km/hr. The brolly’s shaft and ribs have been made from durable steel and fiberglass making it ideal for New Zealand’s changeable weather conditions.

“I love the process of working within an unusual format, it’s very satisfying to be able to design something that is both beautiful and functional,” says Bass.
