Customers encouraged to BYO container

New Zealand ‘Food rescue app’ Foodprint is offering customers the option to BYO container (or ‘BYOC’) when placing a food takeaway order via its app. The goal is to normalise this behaviour amongst customers as BYOC reduces the impact of single use takeaway packaging on the environment.

The Foodprint app was started to help fight food waste amongst cafĂ©s and restaurants; over 60% of this waste is completely avoidable. Food is available to purchase or ‘rescue’ via the Foodprint app for just a fraction of its retail price.

Foodprint Founder Michal Garvey says “New Zealanders have adapted quickly to bringing their own shopping bags, reusable coffee cups and water bottles. Taking your own container when grabbing a takeaway meal is the next logical step in reducing our single-use consumption.”

With an array of practical, stylish and reusable food container options by brands like Porter, Swell, and Bento Ninja, consumers are spoilt for choices and are running out of reasons not to BYOC.

Foodprint’s partner eateries operate in Auckland and Dunedin, and there are plans to expand to other areas country-wide. Visit Foodprint’s website at foodprint.app.
