A day without shoes

Would you go without shoes for a day to help children in need? It’s what shoe company TOMS is asking you to do, and what they’ll give back in return is pretty darn cool …

This year on May 10 as part of their 10 year anniversary, TOMs shoes are holding the ‘One Day Without Shoes’ campaign and will give 100,000 new pairs of shoes to children in 10 countries, in one day.

Each year, TOMS encourages the public to spend one day #withoutshoes to raise awareness for children’s health and education – particularly in poverty-striken countries. Over the last decade, more than 60 million pairs of shoes have been donated by TOMS to children in need as part of their One to One model – where with one pair of shoes purchased, another goes to a child in need. TOMS has since expanded this model to four additional businesses: sight giving, water giving, safe birth giving, and bullying prevention. You can see more about their campaigns and initiatives on their official website, toms.com

To get involved with the #withoutshoes campaign on May 10, here’s what you need to do:

  • Take a quick snap on your Instagram on May 10th of your bare feet or your TOMS using #withoutshoes // @TOMS // @tomsaustralia – you can get some inspiration from last year’s Instagram posts here
  • Go One Day Without Shoes with a few friends; try an ‘experience walk’ around the block, one meeting without shoes, a morning tea without shoes – or just tell a friend/colleague about One Day Without Shoes and spread the TOMS story.
