This month Australian skincare brand Biologi launched a world-first, an 100% active and single plant-extract cleanser.
You may be wondering what this means, as did we. Biologi’s Dermal Specialist Lucy Macdougald explains that the Bc Refresh Cleanser is a world first because it contains the single ingredient of soap berry extract while being 100% active (the active component of an ingredient is what works on your skin).
Skincare brands typically include synthetic ingredients, along with water, filler ingredients and emulsifiers which break down the ‘activity’ of the active ingredient, meaning that the activity is ineffective. However, the Bc Refresh Cleanser contains no harmful chemicals or perfumes, not even water.
“Because Biologi doesn’t add synthetics and our extraction technique keeps the extract stable, we’ve been able to provide this world-first cleanser”, Lucy says.
Biologi chose soap berry because it comes with many benefits, being more than just a cleanser. As well as gently washing away dirt, pollutants, and impurities from the skin’s surface, the soap berry extract is nourishing and non-drying, helps protect the skin against environmental damage, and reduces blemishes.
Soap Berry extract foams naturally, but when you massage it onto skin, it feels silky. “This is the brilliance of nature – we’ve taken a pure plant ingredient that is able to provide the ultimate cleansing experience without needing to add any synthetic ingredients”, says Lucy.
As is a limited supply of Soap Berry in Australia, Biologi uses an ethically and sustainably sourced extract from India.
