Make your food bank donations online with The Foodbank Project

Take the tricky logistics out of your food donations with The Foodbank Project.

Something that’s very important when donating items to food banks and vulnerable people is to ensure you’re donating quality items that they either want or need. Sometimes it’s hard to find out what exactly is needed by your local food bank, so, often, we’re not quite sure what to donate and where to take it.

The Foodbank Project is an online food bank in New Zealand, which takes the worries and logistics out of donating to your local food bank. They top up The Salvation Army’s foodbanks around the country, ensuring places more in need get adequate supplies.

All you have to do is head to their website, pick individual items or a bundle and then check out.

What’s a bundle?

Countdown, The Salvation Army and The Foodbank Project have teamed up for Countdown’s Food Rescue Winter Appeal (June 3-30, 2019). As part of this campaign you can buy a winter bundle, which includes an array of food items. An example of one of the bundles is the Large Winter Bundle. Inside this pack you’ll donate:

  • 1kg beef mince
  • One lot of pasta or spaghetti
  • 1.5kg brown onions
  • One lot of traditional pasta sauce
  • 500g cheddar cheese
  • Two 505g cans of Countdown canned soup (Chunky Chicken & Vegetable)
  • 200g tin of Nestle Milo drinking chocolate
  • 1kg wheat biscuits
  • One Balnea antibacterial hand wash (lime)

Once you’ve decided what you’d like to donate, you can choose whether it’s to be a one-off donation, or you can give on weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis.

All that’s left for you to do is order and pay, and then Countdown packs it up and delivers it to the nearest Salvation Army food bank hub to include in their food parcels.
