Meet your editor: Carolyn Enting

Get to know your new editor, the lovely Carolyn Enting

Where did you grow up?

On a rural 2 acre block of native bush on Blue Mountains Rd, Upper Hutt with a magnificent view of the Tararua mountain range. It was a magic place to grow up. Lots of trees to climb. We had a tree trunk in the middle of our lounge too, and a mezzanine ‘book’ balcony which sat atop the tree. It was a great place to hang out, read and dream.

The relaunch issue of Good hits stands on December 21

How did your journey into journalism and the media industry come about?

I studied journalism at Wellington Polytechnic, straight from school and graduated with a Certificate in Journalism. My first job was as a junior reporter for the Upper Hutt Leader newspaper. I decided at age 14 that the life of a journalist was appealing after finding two copies of book series Sally Baxter Girl Reporter at a book fair for 5c each. She had amazing adventures and travelled to exciting places. Twenty-seven years on I can say I have in my career too!

What made you want to take the job of Good‘s editor?

Good’s philosophy and conscious-living mantra totally aligns with my ethics and values so when the opportunity came knocking, I couldn’t say no. I also love that the magazine is carbon neutral.

What’s the best part about your job?

Helping to create a magazine that aligns with my values and working to create something that will provide enjoyment and inspiration for others, and make a difference.

What’s one thing people don’t know about you?

I’m a book author. My debut children’s novel, The Medallion of Auratus (2014) is the first in a planned ‘Ocean Quest’ series. The first one took many years to write, as I was only able to pen it during annual leave breaks. It’s a rollicking fantasy adventure for all ages.

We’ve kept the elements that have made Good great, and we’ve brought together some of the best talent in New Zealand

If you could give the 20-year-old you a piece of advice, what would it be?

Realise how amazing and gorgeous you are now. In years down the track you will look back and realise this, then kick yourself that you wasted time getting hung up on your skin, waist size or what other people think. Get out there and enjoy being you, you won’t regret it.

What’s the most exciting thing about the relaunched Good for you?

One thing? Hmm, that is a hard one to answer. I’m excited to hear what our subscribers think!

What can readers expect from the ‘new Good’?

We’ve kept the elements that have made Good great but also added new sections too. The masthead and fonts have changed, the layout is more contemporary. Most importantly the content is still good, well awesome actually. We’ve brought together some of the best talent in New Zealand.

Do you have a favourite story in the relaunch issue?

It would have to be The Importance of Dreaming. It inspired the relaunch issue. I’ve always been a dreamer and believe dreams are good for our health, happiness and goals.

Spread the love
