Nadia’s Comfort Kitchen cookbook by Nadia Lim is on sale for NZD$19 + shipping, with 100 percent of profits being donated to Women’s Refuge and Youthline, two New Zealand charities that have seen a spike in demand since the Covid-19 pandemic.
Youthline is projecting a $230,000 shortfall in helpline funding due to Covid-19, and Women’s Refuge incurred extra costs during the lockdown to provide for alternative accommodation, personal care items, and transport.
The one-off, limited edition, 120-page cookbook features recipes from Nadia’s Comfort Kitchen, her homemade TV series that was aired on TVNZ during lockdown. The aim of the TV series was to help spread love and comfort from Lim’s kitchen during what was an uncertain time for the country. Lim received such an overwhelmingly positive response from Kiwis and has decided to extend her cooking bubble of comfort post-lockdown to keep the love flowing to charities in need during this time.
In just 48 hours of pre-sales the cookbook has been in hot demand, raising $210,000, a number that is increasing as awareness grows. As sales of the cookbook rise, the cost of production decreases and the profit donated to charity increases, Lim’s goal is to reach a total of $350,000 donated by this Friday 12 June.
On top of this, My Food Bag has committed to match the first $10,000 raised in sales from the book by donating food and ingredients to Salvation Army’s The Foodbank Project.
Nadia Lim says, “I was conscious of the increase in fundraising campaigns targeting Kiwi households during this time, a time when families are under a lot of financial stress and uncertainty themselves. But I knew that with the right idea that brought everyone together, there would be a win-win for donors and charities.”
Nadia’s Comfort Kitchen Cookbook is available to pre-order online from now until Friday 12 June at midnight. All recipes featured in the cookbook are simple and easy to make from common kitchen ingredients, such as gnocchi, oaty caramel slice, apple and cranberry sausage rolls, saagwala, flatbreads and more.
