New survey reveals New Zealand’s favourite meat

Whether it’s a rack, leg or cutlets, New Zealand lamb has been named the hero of the dinner table when ranked against other family favourites by Kiwi home cooks.

Whether it’s a rack, leg or cutlets, New Zealand lamb has been named the hero of the dinner table when ranked against other family favourites by Kiwi home cooks.

A recent survey conducted by Beef + Lamb New Zealand saw 545 New Zealanders asked about their favourite meats to serve when entertaining at home, with results showing lamb to be the standout choice ahead of chicken, beef and pork.

Lamb was also the top pick for restaurant diners, with the majority of respondents selecting lamb as their preferred protein when dining out.

Favourite meal? For the second year running, more than 80 per cent of the respondents selected the humble roast lamb with all the trimmings. Yum!

One of the main reasons for choosing New Zealand lamb, according to respondents was because they trusted its quality and product chain.

The year’s National Lamb Day, February 15, marks the 135th anniversary since William Davidson and Thomas Brydone launched the first shipment of frozen sheep meat to London from Port Chalmers in Otago.
