Papinelle creates beautiful sleepwear, loungewear and lifestyle products designed to inspire relaxation and enhance your downtime. We asked Papinelle’s designer and co-owner Nicole Kelly about the brand, its evolution and its inclusion in the Good Sustainable Style Show at New Zealand Fashion Week.
What is the story about the name of your brand, and why did you choose it?
We love and get inspired by all things French, Papinelle is a combination of two beautiful French words “Pappillon and Coccinelle”.
Who designs the range?
Designers Renae James and Nicole Kelly.
When did you launch your label?
Papinelle was launched in 2004 and started at Paddington Markets in Sydney.
Where about are you based?
Papinelle head office is above our Flagship store on Oxford Street Paddington set amongst some of the worlds best fashion brands. Most of the design concepts are done whilst Renae and myself are travelling and then bought to life back in Sydney. Papinelle has also just launched it’s first International Store in Teed Street Newmarket.
What is your brand purpose/mission statement?
Papinelle creates beautiful sleepwear, loungewear and lifestyle products designed to inspire relaxation and enhance your downtime. We appreciate the good things in life and value quality downtime with great company. We believe that relaxation and comfort are imperative to a balanced lifestyle. We are committed to helping women slip into this mode of relaxation easily and often. We are meticulous, we are thoughtful and we find beauty in everything.
If you had to describe your point of difference, what would that be?
Creating unique feminine prints on beautiful fabrics. Luxe feminine styling.
How would you describe your brand aesthetic?
Feminine, luxurious, natural and always beautiful.
What are you most looking forward to about being part of the Good Sustainable Style Show at NZ Fashion Week?
Showcasing our beautiful product. We are so proud of what we create and would love to share that with New Zealand.
What will you be showing on the runway?
Inspired by luxury seaside hotels around the world our most divine collection of luxury natural fabrics, silks and silk cotton printed sleepwear from Spring Summer 2019. We love the flattering shape of a Maxi nightie so these will definitely feature!
What fabrics do you love working with most, and why?
Silks, cottons and unique blends of natural fibres. All our fabrics need to be soft to the touch, inspire comfort and are beautiful aesthetically.
