Runaway Girl marching for pride: Karen Walker celebrates RainbowYOUTH and rainbow communities

Shaneel Lal

This February, during Auckland Pride Festival, Karen Walker releases three pieces in celebration of rainbow communities and in support of Aotearoa’s RainbowYOUTH charity: an organic cotton T-shirt and sweatshirt and an iPhone case featuring Karen’s Runaway Girl marching for Pride.

NZ $10 from every T-shirt and sweatshirt, and $5 from every iPhone case sold will be donated to RainbowYOUTH

Established in 1989, RainbowYOUTH provides support, information, resources and advocacy for queer, gender diverse, takatāpui and intersex youth, their friends, whānau and wider communities in order to ensure that Aotearoa New Zealand is a place where all young people can thrive. Its motto, gifted by the Tīwhanawhana Trust, is “Know who you are, be who you are. Whāia tō ake ngākaunui, i te pono, i te mārama.”

These styles have been photographed on Aucklanders the KW team greatly respects for their work in the LGBTQIA+ community and beyond, including:
