United Places Botanic Gardens

Melbourne’s beautiful United Places Botanic Gardens reimagines the boutique hotel experience. Take a look at what you’ll have in store for you when you visit.

As modern travelers we can come to explore places through the lens of its local, creative and influential people. Often it’s the developers and designers that create the container for an experience of place and community to bring a vision through. After four years in the making, in late 2018 United Places Botanic Gardens was open – an urban oasis in the heart of South Yarra, Melbourne. Derived from the idea of combining hotel and home, a new level of local and luxury travel accommodation appeared. And it’s very Melbourne.

Melbourne creative studio Projects of Imagination was charged to create the brand, and celebrated design firm CARR was commissioned for the hotel’s architecture and interior. Award-winning chef Scott Pickett was selected for the ground floor restaurant, Matilda, which has already topped the list for its contemporary Australian food and design, comfort and warmth. This is where the complimentary curated breakfast is delivered from daily, and with priority seating in the restaurant and in-room dining.

Upon arrival you are greeted by your own personal concierge, as present or discreet as you like. Spanning three floors, there are nine one-bedroom suites and three two-bedroom suites that have large sunken bathtubs overlooking the city’s skyline. The ‘extroverts’ are the garden suites and penthouses that overlook the front side, connecting you to the expansive park and serene street. The ‘introverts’ are the urban suites and penthouses, a private, south-facing retreat with views of the neighbourhood’s historic mansions and red brick industrial apartments. Guests in any of the 12 suites will encounter spacious and opulent rooms, each with a sumptuous and richly textured material palette, and full-sized amenities by cult beauty brand, Le Labo. This is also the only hotel globally to offer a mini bar stocked with Sullivan’s Cove Whisky, the 2018 World’s Best Whiskey.

United Places Botanic Gardens is both modernist and refined, with its textured concrete façade hiding a cosmopolitan bunker that’s a reimagining of the boutique hotel experience. Close to leafy parklands with paths that will take you to new art exhibitions at the NVG, south-side ventures by tram, along the Yarra, across to the markets and dreamy village of Albert Park and promenade along Port Phillip Bay.
