Feeling stressed? Take frequent mini-breaks

Booking small, regular breaks can help lower stress levels, according to new research.

After a long days work, do you often find yourself daydreaming of a small getaway and kicking your feet up? Well, now there is no excuse to go on that much desired holiday as new research commissioned by Choice Hotels Asia-Pac and needabreak.com, shows that booking small regular breaks will help you lower your stress levels.

According to the report ‘Need a Break’, it revealed that Kiwi women are much more stressed than their male counterparts. The findings were quite staggering, with 71 per cent of New Zealand women feeling stressed with the main causes attributed to money, work and family issues.

Health and wellness advocate, Makaia Carr said that women struggle to put themselves first.

“Women typically don’t take the time to consider their own mental and physical health and put work and family commitments first”

“It is so important to prioritise your own wellbeing. if you feel uncomfortable taking time out for yourself, consider the effects if your stress develops into something more severe, such as depression or anxiety” says Carr.

The report found that the most effective solution to relieving stress was to take a short break with 83 per cent of the respondents saying they felt revitalised after coming back from a short break and more than half of the respondents said they were better able to manage their stress.

Carr said that taking time out of your daily routine away from your workplace allows time to rest and recharge.
