Watching the stars stroll the red carpet towards the Academy Awards is always a jaw-dropping experience thanks to the stunning fashion attire, but today we were celebrating for another reason. There were two stars who wore dresses with sustainability in mind!

Stars Danielle Macdonald and Laura Harrier wore dresses that were part of the Red Carpet Green Dress initiative. This initiative was founded in 2009 by environmental advocate Suzy Amis Cameron, and it’s all about eco collaborations. Red Carpet Green Dress teams up with brands to spread the message of sustainable fashion to a diverse audience. This year for the 91st Academy Awards, they teamed up with Louis Vuitton abd Christian Siriano.

Laura Harrier, who starred in BlacKkKlansman, wore the Louis Vuitton dress, which featured Global Organic Textile Standards–certified Taroni Spa blue crepe silk. The embroidery on Harrier’s dress involved 450 hours of hand embroidery by Vermont Paris, and features glass beads, Swarovski crystal shards and sequins that meet the Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX, which is an international quality label for harmless textiles.

Danielle Macdonald, who starred in Dumplin’, wore a Christian Siriano gown, which was made from red cotton crepe fabric that had been coloured using vegetable dye. The dress also incorporated recycled tulle.

It’s so great to see sustainable fashion making its way to the red carpet, and we can’t wait to see more beautiful, ethical outfits being showcased in the future!
