Tūrama Festival to illuminate Auckland

As part of Elemental Auckland, Tūrama Festival is set to shine over 26-28 July 2019 in a dazzling display at Albert Park.

Words Emily Wilton

Tūrama, which means to illuminate, is a jungle gym for the intrigued, showcasing stories and artwork created by local voices, including sculptures, live performances, creative light shows and interactive installations. With 25 artists involved in the creation of the evening there are plenty of events to get involved with.

Albert Park’s band rotunda will see Kiwi musicians such as Yuko Zuna and Ed Zuccollo, to name a few, filling the night air with their musical numbers. There’s also the opportunity to grab a seat to movie mania with a number of short films presented by Māoriland in an amphitheatre of its own tucked away by the Auckland Art Gallery.

This free-of-charge event will see characters roam the park throughout the night from 5-10pm, interacting and partaking in the joys on offer performing alongside the park boundaries.

A range of food trucks will also be running, serving up delicious meals and mulled wine to keep you warm while you explore the festival grounds. They’ll be following smart and simple ways to reduce waste as much as possible, but bring along your own reusable containers to cut down on single-use items.
